Los Angeles, CA - Known for championing independent cinema since 1938, Laemmle Theaters has been the launchpad for some of the most beloved, daring films in movie history — and now, they're welcoming The Wilde Girls, a hilarious, heartfelt survival story that proves being spoiled is no match for Mother Nature.
Directed by Timothy Hines (10 Days in a Madhouse) and produced by Susan Goforth, The Wilde Girls stars breakout talents Cali Scolari — daughter of the late, great Emmy Award-winning actor Peter Scolari, longtime Tom Hanks collaborator — and rising star Lydia Pearl Pentz, who’s already completed work on four upcoming feature films. Joining them is Teddy Smith, known as "New York’s Favorite Comic," bringing a dose of real-world wit to the film’s wilderness chaos.
Fresh off graduating from the prestigious Stella Adler Academy, Cali is proudly carrying on the family tradition of great acting — her father was none other than Peter Scolari, Emmy Award winner and star in classics like Bosom Buddies (with Tom Hanks!), Newhart, and Girls. Now it’s Cali’s turn to shine — and she’s absolutely owning it.
About the Film:
Set in 1932 during the height of the Great Depression, The Wilde Girls follows sisters Tinsley and Mattie Wilde, two pampered New York socialites who lose their fortune overnight — and end up stranded deep in the wilderness with no idea how to survive. No cell phones. No credit cards. No clue.
Think Clueless — but with bears. Think The Revenant — but with better shoes.
“This is the story of what happens when you lose every advantage you thought made you powerful," says producer Susan Goforth. "It’s a hilarious, emotional journey about sisterhood, grit, and finding out who you really are.”
With its smart humor, gorgeous 1930s aesthetic, and uplifting message, The Wilde Girls is set to capture hearts — and have audiences laughing out loud. Early viewers are calling it "a riot with real heart" and "the feel-good surprise of the year."
Following its Laemmle NoHo 7 launch, The Wilde Girls will open on June 6th at New York’s historic Cinema Village — another iconic theater — before expanding across the U.S. in July.
Get ready to laugh, cry (just a little), and cheer for the funniest survival story ever to hit the big screen. #TheWildeGirls #LaemmleLove #SurvivalLooksGoodOnYou #SpoiledButScrappy
